Le Cabanon, Le Corbusier, 1952
Cap-Martin, Côte D’Azure, France
“Iconically void of the superfluous, built for maximum comfort to slide right in.”
The Cabanon style was inspired by Le Corbusier’s holiday home at Cap-Martin on the Côte d’Azure, where he liked to retreat every summer for more than ten years.
Built in 1952, Cabanon is apparently an unpretentious sea-side cabin, comprising a remarkable example of micro-architecture, full of meaning with a rich, logical and harmonious composition of rational resolutions, notwithstanding the more than modest dimensions. What is most fascinating to us is that this tiny house was the place where this master of minimal living chose to spend so much time in life. It seems like a testament to the fundamental benefits of living simply for improving the quality of life.
The Cabanon style was conceived, designed and built assigning the main value to the interior of the construction and following quality choices, rather than astonishing details or show.
